Bad politics from London to Karachi: Opposition for the sake of Opposition

Bad politics from London to Karachi Opposition for the sake of Opposition

A Story of destructive politics
MQM exposed herself badly during last week in Karachi. Apparently their target was Khurshid Shah but in fact they were protesting against the speeches of Bilawal Bhutto. Those who called MQM a secular party themselves ashamed as the party was using religion like Taliban. On the other hand in London a close relative of Imran Khan did same when he disturbed Million March just to oppose Bilawal. In both cases target was PPP yet in final analysis both parties exposed themselves.

Textbook Changes in KPK: What is in their mind?

Textbook Changes in KPK

 What is in their mind?

Is PTI & JI collation government is ready to change textbooks? According to news  it is on cards and Reuters reported " A Pakistani province is rewriting school books to make them more Islamic, inserting verses on jihad, removing pictures of unveiled women and changing material on recent history, officials said on Thursday." The news item also mentioned some changes in 2008 by ANP and now those changes are under question. The matter is complex and it needs some inquiry. meanwhile you just read what is reported.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rewrites textbooks

Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is rewriting its textbooks to be more Islamic, officials stated on Thursday (ReutersVOA). The new textbooks will reportedly include passages on jihad, remove images of unveiled women, and rewrite some of the history. Inayatullah Khan, the leader of the religious Jamaat-e-Islami party, stated: "Kashmir, which we consider an integral part of Pakistan, was stated as part of India in the map in a book. Similarly, it was mentioned that Bangladesh got freedom from Pakistan, which we don't accept." He also said the books would replace content on non-Muslims with content on Muslims. The province's textbooks had previously been rewritten in 2008 under the leadership of the secular Awami National Party.

A Good Move: We have to think What we are Teaching our Children

A Good Move:

We have to think

What we are Teaching our Children

It is a good move in which PM advice HEC to prepare these recommendations by consulting provinces because after 18th amendment now provinces are responsible for education. There are numerous Articles in the constitution which allows federal government to advice/recommend provinces regarding devolved subjects.
There is a perception that only public school textbooks are bad and have prejudice material but in reality books being used in private educational institutions have political as well as social biases. Textbooks being taught in Pakistani schools (both public & private)have praises for military dictators, prejudices against elected politicians and have biases like urban bias, sectarian bias, religious bias and gender bias in general.  The other important thing in this regard is question of medium of instruction. In a recent workshop organized by UNDP in Islamabad regarding fulfillment of MDGs Punjab Text Book Board Chairman admitted their fault to introduce English as medium of instruction from class 1 and published textbooks in English language. Now PTB has changed its polcy which was introduced by General javed qazi during Pervaiz Musharaf times. But in the same meeting KPK representative remained adamant that the decision of new KPK government to introduce English as medium of instruction from class 1 and publish textbooks in English language remains unchanged. KPK representative also enrich audience that they are still confuse about using mother tongue as medium of instruction. The issue is little complex and needs attention from policy makers.  One has to think not only about status of English, Urdu but also role of Pakistani mother tongues.  For this government should announce a Language commission at federal level which should assist parliament on this important issue.

Revision of curricula is not a simple issue and in the presence of two opposite positions it is even hard to address it.  Our friends often criticize curricula without understanding ground realities. On the other hand there are some self-righteous commanders who want to fix curricula without realizing age of the kid and the diversity of Pakistani society.  BBC story in this regard is an example of bad tatse which is making the issue more complex. In this situation it is difficult but not imposible to bridge the gap.

London Drama@Kashmir Day: was it a joint venture of MQM & PTI?

London Drama@Kashmir Day

was it a joint venture of MQM & PTI?

These days PTI, MQM & PAT are targeting PPP & PML(N). In their campaign they defame Pakistan and Kashmir cause which is an example of bad taste. Allama Tahir ul Qadri just talked to media and gave reference of Million march at London yet he did not criticized PTI's bad politics at London. Is it a future course of infamous London plan?
What Indian press reported today was expected. Indians are also remain active at social media. In a post at Rational society ( a facebook Page) Mr Virendra said " Taliban Khan sends nephew to sabotage Bilawal's address". Another liberal Nirmal maundar wrote " Poor Blawalal his anti India & K(Kashmir) rant got him only rotten tomatoes."  These are only two examples yet if one gathered all news printed in Indian media and social media in one volume then even common supporter of both PTI & MQM will ashamed. In below you will find two links of Sify.com and The Hindu which will show how our own political parties defame Pakistan and Kashmir cause. Handlers of these parties should realize what type of product they prepared? there are visible similarities between Taliban and these parties. In its smart reporting style The Hindu pinpointed the hostile activity as a joint venture of PTI and MQM yet in Pakistani media Gulu supporters of MQM targeted only PTI smartly. The Hindu reported it as follows

"Organised by Sultan Mahmood Choudhry, former prime minister of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, the march – billed as a show of strength for the cause of an independent Kashmir – quickly revealed the political fractures in Pakistan’s polity and the brittle relations between the PPP, former cricketer Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaaf, and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement."

Setting the Political Priorities? Census, Electoral Reforms and Local Government Elections

Setting the Political Priorities?
Census, Electoral Reforms and Local Government Elections

So real Dhrna is ended by Qadri yet IK is running his "evening Shows". It is high time for politicians to set the future agenda of Pakistan. Electoral reforms and election of local bodies are essential yet in the absence of Census we cannot judge the electorates nor we can readjust constituencies at federal, provincial, district and union council level. Parliament should act proactively in post Dhrna failures. No doubt it is important to protect Democracy and parliament in its joint session create new history but to stop future interventions it is essential to set Priorities.
From October 1958 two forces are consistently fighting and history of last 56 years is a witness of this quarrel. Researchers, policy makers and intellectuals called it Civil Military Balance but in fact our non elected elite is behind this game. Months of July and October are famous for this intervention yet some forces tried to include August but failed terribly in 2014. One is Anti democracy force which has a colonial baggage of authoritarianism, centralism and totalitarianism.  Some times this force used enlightened face (like Ayub, Yahya, Musharaf) and some times it used Islamic face (like Zia ). They also used Urdu, Islam, decentralization and fight against corruption and have love to create New Leaderships. The other force is pro democracy people who are now on a same page especially after CoD of may 2006. From 2007 Judiciary also left the anti democracy front yet still reluctant in many ways. May is the month of pro democracy forces as May 16 (2006)and May 11(2013) saved democracy in Pakistan.

25th October 1917: Lesson of Russian Revolution

25th October 1917: Lesson of Russian Revolution
Is there any meaning of political change alone? If social change is absent then mere political change becomes a weapon in the hands of same power players. Ether we like or not but our world is divided in Nation states and in the presence of Nation states ideologies (either religious or secular) are subservient to the policies of nation states. Soviet Union was broke in 1992 yet after 22 years we still failed to analyze it.

Who Can save Sindh. Bilawal, Altaf or Imran Khan?

Who Can save Sindh.

Bilawal, Altaf or Imran Khan?

My Sindh is burning. Politics of Sindh is in crisis again. Issue is not as simple as understood by the twisted media. Sindhi Mohajar issue is just for face saving yet in reality it is question of a demographic Shift. The party who will address this demographic shift will lead the Sindh both in urban and interior for sure. MQM is victim of its old politics and biases yet PTI is reluctant to challenge   The Holy cow of Urban sindh while PPP has double standards regarding creation of new provinces or division of current provinces. If you are not ready to divide sindh than you should stick on constitutional POSITION ONLY. Now sindh consists of three major groups, 1- Old Sindhies 2- Urdu speakers who joined Sindh after 1947 and third group consists of those Pakistanis who came to sindh when early days government installed all major industry in Karachi and hub.

Escalation at Pak India borders: Using warmongering as election tactics is a bad thing

Escalation at Pak India borders: Using warmongering as election tactics is a bad thing
The elections in India in 2014 include the Indian general election of 2014 and seven state legislative assembly elections. Seven States are  Andhra pardesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Odisha and Sikkim. Results of Maharashtra and Haryana are due in next two days and the most important election of Jummu & Kashmir is due in December. So it is a smart move to use anti Pakistan rhetoric to influence elections. BJP is smart enough in playing with perceptions and this move is also an addition so it will extend such escalations till December 2014. It is quiet opposite from Pakistan where not a single major party used Anti India rhetoric in May 2013 elections. BJP may fix her rivals in local politics but it strengthens Anti India rhetoric in the region too. Due to this move now all major parties in Pakistan are not ready to talk on Chinab formula like middle paths. Space for Peace and negotiations is shirking day by day. Is it a service for India? It is high time for South Asian politicians to have a bottom line regarding peace and dialogue in the region.  If they do not have a bottom line then they have to face people like Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for sure.  In an editorial in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna', Thackeray alleged that Modi replicated Shiv Sena's style to win elections. If it were not the case, even Modi's father, Damodardas, could not have won majority in Lok Sabha elections. There is no limit of stupidity in religion based narrow nationalism. Pakistan's National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz has claimed that the current border tension between New Delhi and Islamabad was part of a bigger conspiracy by the Indian Government to blame Pakistan as well as exploit the border issue to attract voters in the state elections. These are alarming moments and in this tit for tat situation there is no room for peace at all.

Who is afraid from China Russia Nexus?

Who is afraid from China Russia Nexus?
From Ukraine to Pakistan indications of fear are visible
Politics of sanctions and supporting disturbances in numerous countries is futile in this post-cold war world where engagement and trade are leading forces. Realization of growing trade links of China with neighboring regions all nation states are also trying to use this opportunity. It is a paradox for those who are trying to revive Cold War days. New realities and shifting of pressures are now dictating rules of games. Since 1989, Europe and US has imposed restrictions on military technology exports to China and in recent past “A significant number of the economic sanctions that the United States and European Union have imposed on Russia involve not just restrictions on exports of advanced and dual-use technologies, but also technology aimed at purely civilian use.” These sanctions strengthen Sino-Russian relations and it is growing day by day. “Undeniably, Chinese high technology still lags behind that of Europe and the U.S., but Chinese industry has nearly met or even surpassed Western levels of development in some specific areas. For example, the fastest supercomputer in the world is the Chinese Tianhe-2, and China has made significant progress in building high-speed rail links that are of great interest to Russia.”
From 2005, first time in his life India, get a chance to become an American ally and from 2010 U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue started. But Chinese are also investing in India. “The key element of the U.S. rebalance strategy is The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The U.S. is attempting to establish free trade zones in the Asia-Pacific with the help of TPP. However, India has not been invited to participate in the negotiation process.

In this scenario instead of developing a consensus for future Pakistan some forces are active against government and media is playing a bad role by telecasting their live speeches.

Start Peace Talks: Pak-India peace is once again under attack

Start Peace Talks

Pak-India peace is once again under attack

Governments are reluctant but Media and opposition in both countries are playing with narrow nationalism. Firing and causalities are reported at both sides but narrow nationalists are playing with it as usual in both countries. It is not important who started it but more important thing is to announce ceasefire immediately and start talks. International media is making fun of both countries. Kashmiris and Punjabis are under fire across the borders. Just imagine till election May 2013, almost all major parties in Pakistan did not use Anti India slogans in their election campaigns. Nawaz sharief's visit to India also reflected some hope that relations will improve but in last few months things are changing rapidly. This time opposition parties and so-called independent private media is at front. They are pressurizing respective governments nakedly. is it fall out of Chinese investment in the region?

Everything will be fine soon, assures PM Modi

http://www.samachar.com/Ceasefire-violation-Everything-will-be-fine-soon-assures-PM-Modi-okivOBjecfh.html

Imran Khan also criticized Nawaz Sharif by asking why Prime Minister is silent over Indian aggression along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
He said the country needs a leadership at this point. He said Prime Minister is silent over unprovoked firing by the Indian army.

Modern China: The Specter of China is haunting

Modern China
The Specter of China is haunting

From 2nd half of 20th century China is moving slowly but steadily.  In 1980s it emerged like menace but in the first decade of 21st century specter of china is haunting old powers.  Chinese knew very well how Britain defeated rising powers of France and Germany in 19th and 20th centuries smartly by indulging both countries in wars. So Chinese adopted policy of engagement and avoided wars. USA entered in 21st century through 9/11 but China entered in 21st century through Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).  Now Chinese are moving towards south Asia, central Asia, Middle East and Africa on the one hand and inviting Europe and USA in her lands. Revival of silk route economic corridor is on cards and Pakistan is linked with this policy via Silk Road (started construction in 1966 and ends in early 1980s) and Gwadar port project.  Pakistan is paying the price of pak china relations and the worst was its breakage in 1971, just after 5 years of signing Silk Road agreement. H.S. Shurawardy, Z. A.Bhutto till Nawaz Sharief civilian rulers played an important role yet during all 4 marshallas republicans tried to shift Sino-American balance in favor of US in republican ways. Ayub, Yahya, Zia and Mushraf were their favorites which damaged US image too. But Pakistani State never compromise on Chinese friendship. So they started playing with ethnic, linguistic and sectarian issues. In this process many regional and neighboring countries are involve partly due to their own interests and partly due to big powers. Recent Dhrna politics may be an addition in strategy but parliament played her role wisely which is very rare in Pakistani history. Complex and anarchic situations in Ukraine, Hong Kong and Pakistan are part of  a common agenda but it will not change Chinese position regarding engagement.

Modern China is ready to face odds but its policy of engagement always help it in resolving tricky issues too. Here are some photographs which show you a changed China.

here are pictures.

Playing with Local government elections in KPK is a bad taste

Local government elections in KPK: Is it Another lie of Imran Khan

Playing with Local government elections in KPK is a bad taste

PTI was one of the parties that had promised to devolve powers to local bodies within 90 days of coming to power – but it has been struggling to keep that promise. He did that promise in a press conference at lhore at 24 April 2013. If PPP and PML nawaz did not hold LG polls than PTI's performance is also nil in this regard. Gulu media will not show what IK said at April same year and what he told in June 2014. Like General Ayub till Musharaf why rulers love to play with LG issue.  In the absence of Bio metric system and census what will be new in election process? So i think the statement of Ik regarding LG elction is a trick for sure.
Imran Khan and his camp follower chief Minister of KPK announced that elections of local bodies in KPK will be held in November 2014.   Is it a diversion to finish Dharna? As usual gulu media ignored this announcement. Is it  a usual trick of Ik ? Or face saving? If IK is really interested in local government elections than just explain Who will conduct these elections? Same election commission? which is as par dhrna people a corrupt commission? What it means? Do you have new voter list as par census? Did KPK government purchased bio metric machines? One should remember that in March same year, KPK government gave reasons in Supreem Court regarding delay in election of LG and it was explained in court that in next 5 months KPK will have bio metric machines but no progress recorded.   instead of raising the voice for purchasing bio metric system KPK government involved in Dhrnas.
"Moreover, the K-P government and the election commission are not on the same page on the use of the biometric system either. ECP wants to use this technology in limited constituencies as a pilot project to test its results. However, PTI insists on using the biometric machines to verify the identity of voters all over the province.
“The local bodies’ elections will not be possible before June or July if we have to use the biometric verification devices,” an official of ECP’s IT department categorically stated."
