Boycott election 2013? Who will announce it first? Last 10 days are crucial

Boycott election 2013?  Who will announce it first? Last 10 days are crucial

Last 10 days are very crucial and it will expose all those who are still reluctant. They are not happy with the First democratic transition in Pakistan. ANP, MQM and PPP are trying to hide behind terrorism while PTI agenda is very clear. As Imran khan announced his refusal regarding taking oath from the elected president so practically it means a continuous constitutional crisis in post election scenario if he wins.    in next 5 to 6 days some parties may boycott election in order to raise pressure to delay elections. Three Vs one province game is not new and it reminds us Zia times. Why our supper free media is silent regarding journalist funding remaining lists? Cat will come out of bag in next few days. read the piece as

First Pakistani election 1951 , mishandling & Federal agenda. Do we learn some lesson

First Pakistani election 1951 , mishandling & Federal agenda. Do we learn some lesson

powerful non elected elite esp ICS officershad rigid the first Pakistani elections in 1951. That was  a historic time, had liaqat ali Khan stopped ICS officers sitting in Karachi from rigging the Punjab elections with the help of police and civil officers like DCs, Commissioners etc, we had a different history. Liaqat govt at that time wanted to fix the Punjab so he had already dismissed Mian Iftiqar hussain mamdoot govt in 1949. from that day till election eve, Punjab was under Governor rule. In elections Mamdoot and H.S.suhrawardy joined together as both were against Liaqat sarkar. There were some more groups or parties or individuals who were victim of Liaqat policies. Some of them were also taking part in elections like Mian Iftiqar u din of PPL, Begum Nasim Akbar/shahnawaz ( paternal grand daughter of Mian M Shafi who founded name of Muslim league and daughter of Begum Jahan ara Shahnawaz) and Mirza Abrahim, the famous trade unionist who had support from Communist Party of West Pakistan ( among his supporters included Faiz Ahmad Faiz, arik Spreen, Dada Faroze, C R aslam etc). Just before election eve, a darama was launched and in history it was remembered as Pindi Conspiracy case. with the help of interigues and conspiracies federal government fixed her opponents and Liaqat supporters won but in public this election still remembered as JHURLO, means the big rigging. Poet & Editor, Faiz Ahmad Faiz was among nominated people, got sentence too. Captain zafar Ullah Poshni is among the only servivals of that conspiracy and still living in Karchi. this amritseri wrote a marvellous book in which he recorded Jail Days memoires. an ex civil servant hassan zahier too wrote a book yet as usual he wrote half truth. in-spite of massive rigging, H.S.Suhrawardy and mamdoot party Jinnah awami league won 32 seats and in 2013 we remembered both 1951 election is remembered as Bad Policy. will we learned lessons? interestingly, in 2013 election in Punjab same Faiz sahib's daughter is among provincial monitors and we hope she will resist if observes 1951 action re-play. i tried to write a pice on this event which is as

Shameful flight: is it appropriate to approve funds & new laws during interim period in provinces and center???

Shameful flight: is it appropriate to approve funds & new laws during interim period in provinces and center???

Numerous groups are trying to implement there agendas and lobbing in presidency, Federal government and Provincial Governments for releasing funds, making new laws etc as they knew they cannot do it in democratic period. Its an old style yet is it appropriate? has interim governments power to do so? is it in their mandate? as usual media is silent on this issue yet after May 12, media will raise it in its usual style. where is the election commission ? where is media? where are foreign funded monitors? just rethink.even some political parties are silent . even human rights organizations, bar councils, media organizations are reluctant to raise this issue. interesting....

Rethinking-How our politics ruined by opting road of disobedience

Rethinking

How our politics ruined by opting road of disobedience

This piece is taken from kanji dawarkadas book which remind us the hey days of September November 1920 when Mahatma was ready to launch disobedience movement. Anie Beasent, C.R.Das, Jinnah opposed it. kanji dawarkaDas wrote many books about the politics of first half of 20th century. In 1968 he wrote a book Ten Years to freedom published by Popular prakashan, Bombay. in this book there is a chapter xx1, Gandhiji Assinated ,in which he reproduce a piece from his article published in Illustrated weekly of India , September 28th, 1947 as
" In 1920s Mrs. Besant told Gandhiji when he was contemplating the mass civil disobedience movement that the day of victory for India , that is, when india attains self-Government & freedom , would be the biggest day of defeat for Gandhiji because the spirit of lawlessness resulting in loss of respect for law which he was creating through civil disobedience would react against the Indian Government and people would disobey authority on the lines taught to them by Gandhiji." P-273/4

his last line of the book is more alarming " Gandhiji and Nehru left a bad legacy for India and it takes us years to liquidate the civil effects of this legacy" P-289

now in 2013, we should revisit our politics of disobedeience, Satyagarah, Khilafat, Higrat, Non-cooperation if we want to build a good future for south asia. In Pakistan there r lot more intellectuals who love to praise such movements and our textbboks r inflected with pride and prejudice regarding these movements. some use it as anti-colonial struggle, some as congress struggle, some as muslim response, some as progressive movements but in net shell it promote bad politics. the pice i written today in urdu is

A column about Bapsi Sidhwa , our common Parsi Past in Literature

A column about Bapsi Sidhwa , our common Parsi Past
the columnist mentions a statement of Bapsi yet it was intizar Hussein's statement i think so. Pakistani parses r living not only in Karachi but in Lhore and Bapsi is also among Punjabi parses and The Crow Eater story is also about Lhore 1921. regarding mentioning of parses in literature , no one mentions Tilsam e Hoshruba? its very strange. i converted first two volumes of T.H in easy urdu  in which i found many sentences regarding Gabbars. interestingly, Both Amier hamza and his rival Afrasyab were against Gabbars in the story. when i recheck the word Gabbar, it was also mentioned that they were Atish-Parast yet against magic. a sweet parse lady in Lhore confirmed it as a parallel word for parses. Still i am searching about it yet Punjabi word Gabbro means strong & Bold also reminds us regarding our ancient valuable Parse past. although we had common past with parses from ancient times as mentioned in littérateur regarding Achaemenid Empire & Arsacid Empire B.C
Bulgh was there centre while khurasan, Punjab and Kashmir were included in it. anyway, read the column

Enforcement of Islam,Khan Qallat & Jinnah

Enforcement of Islam,Khan Qallat & Jinnah

Khan of Qallat, Mr Ahmad YAAR Khan was ruler of an estate in Baluchistan who came into power in 1933. After creation of Pakistan he met Jinnah and stayed for 22 days with Jinnah at Karachi. His interview has some interesting details which reminds us the difference between an owner of an Estate, king or monarch and a constitutionalist. Although many of us love some sardars, declared them anti status-co yet in final conclusion a sardar remains a sardar like a dictator remains a dictator either he loves Islam or socialism or not. During his stay, according to him, he told Jinnah to enforced Islam in Pakistan as he ( Khan) has enforced Islam in Qallat Estate from last 10 years. Jinnah, the constitutionalist replied that You are king of your Estate yet Pakistan is not my estate. it has a constitutional assembly who has right to frame its constitution. this interview is part of 13 interviews taken in 1970s by Syed Zulqarnian Zaidi alhuma, published by Institute of history & culture , Islamabad Quid e Azam university. The institute was established by late K K aziz who gave instructions to the author for holding interviews of people who met Jinnah and still alive. these interviews were taken between 1974-77. The book failed to publish during Zia times for obvious reasons. Than kanez Yousaf published it in early 1990 during Benazier first tenure. just read and think about state of affairs in Pakistan.

Partition of Bengal, Game Plan and Iqbal's timely intervention December 1911

Partition of Bengal

Game Plan and Iqbal's timely intervention December 1911

Poet proved right. Allama Iqbal wrote a letter to Begum Atyya Faizi and this couplet was included in that letter. The poet knew well what colonial masters did with Bengalis and how they smartly misled them. But in 1911 his contemporaries remained unaware from that politics. The story started from 1949 when British annexed the Punjab in the month of March. Delhi was included in the Punjab in 1850 and now Punjab was the biggest province that included areas from Delhi to FATA. Now their destination was Oxus and they wanted to capture or destroy ancient Silk trade route. The first step they adopted was gradual deterioration of Royal Bengal Army and induction of army from new lands. Its reaction was 1857 events yet it proved futile for protesters. Had they protested during three wars with the Punjab, things would be different. After dealing with RBA, they spent 30 years in fixing rebellions in the Punjab and its surroundings. In 1877 they organized a Darbar, show of strength at Delhi. it was the first effort to shift the center from Calcutta towards Kabul. In 1878 colonial rulers had occupied Kabul and installed a King there after killing Sher Khan. They not only made Afghanistan a country but also created infamous Durand Line in 1893. In 1901 they created a new province by  cutting 6 Punjabi districts and merge it with tribal people. In 1904 they organized another Darbar, Show of power and that was a first show of military strength. It is to be remembered that Bengali babu were blue eyed boys of the empire since war of Buxar 1764. It was very tricky to make them angry. In 1877 Darbar they awarded ancestor of Tagore the highest civil award. Partition of Bengal was a trick to engage Bengalis and colonial masters played their cards smartly between 1905-1911. They created an issue, divided the Bengal between Muslim and Hindu and finally after shifting the center they made Bengal united again. Iqbal was among few rare politicians who smelled the whole game plan timely. Thant is why he said
The Crown has been shifted..Bengalis got their shoes but lost their hat.

Are you with terrorists or transition to democracy?

Are you with terrorists or transition to democracy?
Everyone knew that terrorists are against democracy. As they have inbuilt distrust on democratic system so it is in their interest to damage transition to democracy by any means. In their books, there is no room for democratic system based on elections. In their literature they openly criticize those who participate in election processes. Their criticism starts from those religious parties who participate in elections and ends on all popular parties by and large. From the recent wave of terrorism just before election it is evident that want to disturb the First Pakistani transition by vote. Such transition will not only strengthen political confidence of  Pakistani public but also reduce fear of terrorists. The recent wave started from Baluchistan when an attack was launched on PML Nawaz provincial president in which his son and brother were killed. continuous attacks in Karachi Peshawar & Quetta proves their intentions but question ahead is, are we with terrorists or with transition to democracy? Delay in elections means their success so what message we will give to Pakistanis? if we delays election, how it will translate in antagonistic foreign media? Next 15 days are very crucial and in these 15 days we can de-construct fear of terrorists. no one can grantee that this will be the last blackmailing tactics so if you delays elections there is no grantee that it will not happen before next date for election. But if we hold elections and complete transition to democracy than it will weak them.

Ghost of S. C.Bose still haunting ? Who killed Bose & why?

Ghost of S. C.Bose still haunting ? Who killed Bose & why?

Many of us neither know about Netta ji, except INA yet Sughata Bose book once again de-constructed myth of many so-called freedom fighters. How nexus of Mahatma Gandhi, Mollana Azad, Birla and Patel managed  to deceive Bose reminds us the power politics of late 1930s. Why Indian State is still reluctant to find cause of death? they formed many commissions from Nehru, Indira till  2005 yet no conclusion? this piece will encourage u to read the book. u can make an order by web also www.readings.com.pk

http://e.jang.com.pk/04-22-2013/Karachi/pic.asp?picname=1815.gif
this is a serious issue yet PPP as usual wants to use it in election 2013. there r numerous forms of overseas Pakistanis. some have dual nationalities, some have only foreign nationalities, majority is living in middle east and don't have immediate interest in Pakistani politics as compared to Pakistanis living in Europe or USA. In India, they have restrictions on voting too . one should stop using such important issue in Politics and leave it for next democratic government.

Great Game & revival of Land Trade Routes by Aamir Riaz in Pakistan Today

http://issuu.com/loungemagazine/docs/www.pakistantoday.com.pk/45

Great Game & revival of Land Trade Routes
Published in Pakistan Today 21st April 2013
Aamir Riaz

In the early twentieth century, the visionary poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal timely criticized the Nation State phenomenon and said:
ان زندہ خداؤں میں بڑا سب سے وطن ہے
جو پیرہن ہے اس کا وہ مذہب کا کفن ہے
The first sentence had prime importance as it deconstructed the myth of Nation State phenomenon based on the enemy construction theory. Yet due to the obvious biases, Iqbal’s secular opponents and religious supporters both, emphasized more on the second line of his verse.

Generally speaking, modern nation states were carved from empires of these last 200 years and the majority of the Nation States were created after WWI and WWII, without toeing into the ideas of common language, common ethnicity or common geographic continuity. They were carved primarily to renegotiate the trade interests of powerful Nation States of those times. In order to secure their trade interests powerful Nation States use wars as a defensive or offensive weapon. If you read the historical documents & accounts from the last 200 years, powerful Nation States used hot, cold and proxy wars extensively against each other not only in Asia & Africa but also in Europe and elsewhere. Smaller nations use the weapon of war against their neighbors while the super powers launch Great Games.
The book under review, “The Return of the King,” also talks of a great game being plays in our region for more than 200 years. William Dalrymple, a British Historian and author of the many other books, recently expanded his authorship by writing on Afghan King & deserter Shah Shuja (1785-1842), grandson of Ahmad Shah Abdali. Shuja got a chance to capture the throne when Kabul was burning in sectarian flames during 1803, but he failed to sustain and was defeated by Shah Mahmud, his half-brother in the Battle of Nimla during 1809. From 1809 till 1842, Shuja tried his luck, unconditionally supported the British forces, and pleased the Maharaja of the Punjab, but to no avail, as he failed to reestablished Sadozai pride of Ahmad Shah Abdali. Barakzai, Sadozai & Hazara tribal infighting along with diverse interests of Qandahar, Herat and Siah-posh Kafirs Afghan society ruined from within during last 200 years. Dalrymple ridiculed the Pathan Punjabi rulers by using minor details as usual and gave selected pieces from valuable Archives. His over emphasis on minor social details & court intrigues would have been justified if he had also used this method while talking about British officers.
There is no doubt that the list of archival records he used is extensive and smartly arranged, but he failed to mention some basic shifts in Afghan politics during the first half of the 19th Century. It was Taimur Shah, the son of Ahmad Shah Abdali who shifted the capital of the empire from Qandahar to Kabul; this shift, lead not only to the gradual fall of the Sadozai, but also strengthened the Qizalbash and Barakzai tribes. Dost Muhammad Khan, son of a Qizalbash lady was the product of that new nexus.
A major part of the book covers the unsuccessful British Campaign of 1839-42 in Afghanistan. As an unofficial diplomat, Dalrymple tries to compare that defeat with the post 9/11 Afghanistan.
‘The parallels between the two invasions I came to realise were not just anecdotal, they were substantive. The same tribal rivalries and the same battles were continuing to be fought out in the same places 170 years later under the guise of new flags, new ideologies and new political perspectives’
By comparing characters and forces involved in both wars we can easily dismiss this novel idea.

By reading this table, readers can easily determine the difference by themselves.
On the 7th of August 1839, British forces annexed Kabul and installed Shuja as the head. From this day till his planned killing by the Barakzais in April 1942, even Dost Muhammad had escaped but Kabul became more tense and fragile. No one considered regional strategic considerations before launching a war. Even though the supply line of the British forces was from the Punjab it often faced ambushes. There was news that Rawalpindi and Lahore were actively sheltering rebel Barakzais, meaning that the Punjab was not supporting Shuja and British forces at that time.  As par Maharaja’s legacy, Punjab had no interest in regime change politics at Kabul nor Britishers engaged Lhore Darbar properly, primarily due to a divided opinion regarding support of Shuja at London.  If Britishers had clear understanding of regional strategic reservations, they did not launch a war. But a group of security personals like Major Claude Wade was heavily involved in Russo -phobia campaign especially after Waterloo (1815). Even Lord Macaulay in his famous minutes of 1835 mentioned rise of Russia yet in our typical anti-colonial syndrome south Asian historians and intellectuals still fails to analyze his minutes.   Unlike Lawrence like balanced British officers, camp followers of Russo -phobia wanted to capture the Punjab and Afghanistan at any cost. For this they use ethnicity and religion extensively. After the death of Punjabi Maharaja, Ranjit Singh (27 June 1839), they launched the war in haste. They captured Kabul in August 1839. The writer mentioned the policy rift at London yet as usual remains reluctant to analyses it.
Till 1840, Iran had also joined the Anti-Shuja/Anti-Britain nexus. There were intense rebellions in Herat and Qandhar against Shuja. Finally Shuja was killed in 1842 and in the summer of 1844 Amir Dost Muhammad Khan became the ruler of Kabul again, but this time with the help of the British Punjabi support. He was in British custody but in the post-Shuja scenario he got a chance, after which he stayed at Lahore from where he went to Kabul.
The Book is written in the background of a great game between the Tsarist Russia (Soviet Union) and Great Britain, which according to author started in 1823 when a British officer interpreted a letter from a Russian foreign minister to the Maharaja of the Punjab. The author however, failed to mention Charles Metcalfe who wanted to take the logistic support from Punjab against Kabul in 1809, much earlier, but was smartly denied by the Punjabi Maharaja.  From 1803 till 1880s Britishers wanted to annexed the Punjab and Afghanistan due to historic land trade routes yet after rise of Germany and Tsarist Russia in early 1890s, they  postponed it and to abandoned land trade routes they carved Durand line which virtually baron  road to Europe .
Our region has been the victim of great games for more than two centuries due to the strategic trade links and the book reminds us of it again. Without peace, friendship, modernity & regional trade vision we cannot revive & exploit those trade links nor will anyone rescue us because every State has its own interests and game plans. Keeping in view that NATO forces are to leave in 2014, we need a clear policy which has been discussed and approved by the parliament, for only in a situation where the people and the State act in consensus, no outer force can dictate. That is the lesson and it is a nut shell which needs little care and vision.

Unforgettable Bose: Timely kick , Exile Government & Horrendous pressure on Raj 1943-47

Unforgettable Bose: Timely kick , Exile Government & Horrendous pressure on Raj 1943-47

few days back, a Pakistani columnist Hamid Mir wrote absolutely wrong story of Nitaji Suhas Chandar Bose which reminds me Sughata Bose's latest book His Majesty's Opponent. still after so many years Ghost of Bose is haunting many of her majesty's hidden and open supporters. According to Sughata, Subhas and Tegore were reluctant to use Banday Matarm even in 1938. After creating exile Government in Oct 1943 he proposed Iqbal poem instead of that.

so Shahid afridi enters in politics and as a reluctant teen girl at this stage his acts r justified. it is also in news that the boom boom is opening a grand hotel in Lhore.
3- Climate Change is there yet we r busy else where
can u imagine such a pleasent April evenings in Lhore? we often starts using ACs in late March yet this time it is so different. even winter was also comparitively long. what is going on. do u read Anatol Levin famous best seller Pakistan A Hard country. in his opening page Levin mentions some world bank reports and also warned us timely about climate change. but we r not ready even to map this development.
4- the issue of secret Funds and its distribution among media
this issue will not see the light. majority of the leaders who want a disclosure are those who failed to get it. after few days, no one will write, comment on this issue. hun sab di nazar tael di dhar ty hai.

1- Basant phobia
http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=293177_89729448
In media some people have a constant grudge against Basant. They did try to resolve this because they have an anti-people mind set. The placement of such news either on front page or back page, usually in two column size shows what is in the mind? from many years it is ban in the Punjab yet this ban cannot resolve the issue. cannot media play a responsible role?

2- One sided commentaries...fashion of media
http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=293183_20459203
Those media persons who lost balanced approach while analysing, actually lost their impartiality which is bad for a professional journalist. He is not alone in this venture yet a common man can pinpoint many TV anchors, columnists who have open affiliations with particular political parties. they often remembered in public as  a) eh ty N00n league da pithu hai  b) eh MQM toon maal lenda hai  c) eh chudryaan da banda hai  d) zardari es nu raqam layee hai etc

3- Gay politics in Pakistan
http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=292725_64769845
http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=292723_45400595
http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=292728_25274502
these are few examples of Gay politics in Pakistan. our friend and the best English columnist in Pakistan, Lhori once wrote a column with some similar heading. Lhori, Zafar Iqbal Mirza is Dawn columnist yet these days his columns r not  publishing in the newspaper. He is writing regularly yet some over smart insiders have more power. This is highly unethical, unprofessional practice. u just read all three news and remember last words of their heading than u will realize what type of Gay politics we have in Pakistan.

4- MQM & Karachi: Playing with the gallery
http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=292722_29571847
with the help of PPP, they have their own interim government in Sindh than why such hue & cry? just for getting votes by posing themselves victim ? even they have their own officers in provincial govt, recheck secretary youth Sindh, than u will realize it urself. She is wife of a leader and not a single example. these r gandhian tactics as usual.

5- New soldiers for ideology of Pakistan
http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=292705_53770601
in good old days, J.I used to give such statements yet now fazul rahman ji is following Mollana Maudoddi smartly. both have common past of opposing Jinnah yet now they r self appointed spokesmen

6- From press advices to media advices
http://e.dunya.com.pk/colum.php?date=2013-04-15&edition=LHR&id=7549_27407692
in Zia's times journalists used to obey press advices , usually released by GDPR or elsewhere yet in modern times Media is so strong that it can release Media advices. as first step these advices are given in private meetings and when they lost acceptance than they use different media houses  and their outlets smartly. whenever u read such advices u must imagine its background too.
7- Using scrutiny as a political weapon
http://tribune.com.pk/story/535718/sword-of-damocles-actual-scrutiny-will-begin-after-elections-says-nab/
From liaqat ali khan Proda & Ayub khan Abdo till today statecraft is using issues like corruption or scrutiny as a smart political weapon against opponents. people understand what he is trying to explain and they will remember it while casting their votes @ May 11th.

Punjab-Punjab understanding: Indian Punjab is ready to follow Pakistani Punjab

Indian Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister has directed Commissioner Ludhiana to prepare feasibility for establishing Indian Punjab Waste Management Company (IPWMC) in a month’s time replicating the successful model of Lahore Waste Management Company. In a meeting with MD LWMC in Jalalabad, Indian Punjab, he has appreciated the efforts of LWMC to introduce and maintain state-of-the art waste management system in Lahore that has borne fruit in the last year after the introduction of modern machinery and door to door waste collection services in collaboration with Turkish contractors. He further said that local government of Indian Punjab will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LWMC for consultancy in next 14 days after approval of Federal Government of India as they have moved the request for final endorsement.

case of Imran Khan: Dual identities are more harmful than dual nationality

Dual identities are more harmful than dual nationality

Imran Khan for the West====Imran Khan for Pakistanis

famous British writer Patric French said in his book that Jawhar lal Nehru was WESTERN Face of Gandhi yet the case of Imran Khan is much more complex than congress. few examples r quoted from same pages of Urdu & English versions

1-In the English version on page 296/7, there are some sentences about Syed Ahmad Shaheed and betrayal of pathan tribes but in Urdu it is missing.

2- n the English version on page 75, Imran Khan writes about the forced exile of Mian Nawaz Sharif after October 1999, while in Urdu on Page 70 it is not there.

3- On page 67 in the English version, Khan writes “at stake were Western puppet regimes in oil-producing countries like Saudi Arabia….” In Urdu translation on page 62/3, the translator missed the name of Saudi Arabia.

these r few examples i quoted in my article Published in The News Jan 2012. u can read it at my Blog
