Another Review of Abid Hassan Manto book But question ''away from expected course'' remains there
The writer failed to mention neither failures of NAP (W) and fatal impact of Sino-Russian conflict translated in ideology nor the main question why the journey goes awry but he expected Manto to write more. No doubt, in the introduction Abid Manto touch many questions and criticized NAP (W) rightly partly due to their fedual cum tribal class structure and compromises and partly due to its anti communist mindset yet we expect that Manto sahib will narrate the story in his autobiography that is in the process of writing. In recent times some leftists attempted to write their memories and some are in line. Tufail Abbas, Sheikh Rashid, jamal naqvi, Abdullah malik, Jumma Khan Sufi, Kamran Asdar Ali, Mubashir Hasan, Hamid Akhtar, Aziz ullah Advocate, Sardar Shaukat Ali, Ch Fateh Muhammad, B M kutti (biography of G B Bazenjo), etc have written books while some AZO fame political workers like Farkhanda Bukhari too penned some books. There are some more good resources like book of Mian Iftiqar u Din, Dada Amier Haider, Sajjad Zaheer book of selected editorials, Z A Ahmad book, Ayub Mirza's Novel, Mohit Sane book Travels and the Road, History of the CPI by H S Surjit, Zafar ullah Poshni books, along with party documents prepared by different leftist groups that are helpful too. If you add here interviews of 33 leftist leaders published in Awami jumhori Forum (Book of these interviews along with some new interviews will publish soon) and some articles written by leftists in AJF you can understand various periods of communist struggle. A new book is with publisher and it covers the controversial but vibrant period of leftist struggle in subcontinent (1942-54) and it is autobiography of Abdul Rauf Malik. As i worked with him in this book so I can share that the book will challenge previous narratives too. People like Amin Mughal, Aziz udin Ahmad, etc can add more.
Now you read the review published in Tribune, Pakistan and i will also share some other links below for further reading.
