Punjab education record in 2013..some good and few bad results

Punjab education record in 2013..some good and few bad results

Education in Punjab is improving and according to UNDP data used in Aysha Khan research paper ( published by Pakistan development review in 2009) lowest litracy ratio ( L. R) district was rajanpur but its ration was 48.4 in 2009. if we analyses last four year performance in education in the Punjab it can be said that in last 4 years now we have some improvement at rajanpur too. The paper is available at Jstore and it shows 6 Districts with as high L.R (above 70%) while 16 district have L.R above 58% and remaining 12 have L.R between 48.4 to 57.5. Pakistan has signed MDG and also popular political parties has passed 18th amendment with the inclusion of 25-A and now at least in the Punjab they can achieve MDG with some concentrated efforts. As lowest L.R districts are scattered in South, North and central Punjab so it needs a comprehensive effort in this regard. In total out of 34 districts 28 have L.R above 55% and in these provinces by dividing data among Tahsels and union councils one can identifies areas where literacy campaign needs an immediate response. Lowest districts includes Qasur, Okara (central punjab), Rajanpur, muzafargarh, bhawalpur(South Punjab) wheras high L.R districts are Rawalpindi (highest), Jehlum, Gujrat, Sialkot, Chakwal and Lhore. Without dividing the data at tahsel and union council level it will be hard to achieve goals. The data shows gradual improvement in the Punjab yet situation of other three provinces is still alarming. read the piece and rethink
