Voting Right 16 years: Youth is On the Agenda

Voting Right 16 years: Youth is On the Agenda

Talking about Youth is Fashion of the day and after all you cannot avoid latest fashion. after so many year's struggle now we have almost a consensus on the system of voting esp after the creation of UNO and adoption of International human rights Charter. yet the question regarding appropriate age for voting is still under debate. Till 1970s voting age was 21 years, especially in many west European countries and USA yet they reduced it till 18 afterwards. South Asians have to follow masters so in 21st century countries like India & Pakistan also reduced voting age upto 18. the basic assumption is that an 18 year youngster become mature ( politically, not physically) enough so that he can differentiate between good and bad. Till 1970s it was 21 years but after 1970s it is 18 years...Age of maturity. Some countries made good progress when they announced reduced voting age for local government system and for voting in national/provincial they have 20 years or above. In this way u can engage youth and train them too. Anyway, Austria is the country which reduced the age upto 16 years in 2007 which compelled me to write this piece. read and enjoy
