Lawyer's Movement 2007-2009 (Lessons, achievements & gapes) A radio discussion (listen)

Lawyer's Movement 2007-2009
(Lessons, achievements & gapes)
A radio discussion (listen)

In March 2007, Chief Justice of Pakistan was asked to resign from his post by the then so-called president and dictator General Mushraff yet his hand pickled CJ had refused to obey. That refusal was appreciated by many sections and it gave birth to lawyer's movement. In two years, Mushraff was removed and CJ was reinstated yet what happened during those two years needs a serious look.
A discussion on Lawyer's movement and its impact was essential so Lok Lhar show did it. It is important to revisit our recent past so that one can learn lessons.

Digital Agenda & new world: ICIJ got 4.5m $ grant

Digital Agenda & new world: ICIJ got 4.5m $ grant

As par ICIJ website the NGO, OMIDYAR NETWORK GRANTS UP TO $4.5M TO SUPPORT ICIJ PROJECTS. The Omidyar is a king of rising digital sector and they looks non profit sector as their wheels; businesses can be a powerful force for good. Pierre Omidyar experienced this firsthand as the founder of eBay. Just as eBay created the opportunity for millions of people to start their own businesses, we believe market forces can be a potent driver for positive social change. That’s why we invest in both for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations, whose complementary roles can advance entire sectors. The interest of digital world network in transparency, environment and Climate Change looks beneficial for the new business. So after successful Panama project , the digital network happily give grant to ICIJ. In past the NGO got 100 m $ grant from Omidyar subsidiary e-bay.
We remember the days of mid 19th century when some European  powers first captured the sea routes, fought with each other, took the help of pirates and had annexed many lands. They developed colonial structures, killed and humiliated indigenous nations and started extracting raw material. It helped them to boast industrialization extensively and than they need more work force. So they propagated many new ideas like women participation, adult franchise etc. In order to enhance workforce, they supported freedom of peasants so that free men & women could work in factories. The introduction of paper money played a vital role in the destruction of old barter system. Women rights, adult franchise, opposition to feudalism, emphasis on individual rights (a prerequisite for private business) were their banner slogans yet the goal was different and in last 150 years they have achieved the goal well. Still after so much capitalism, majority of people at the glob neither have adult franchise nor social political rights yet they developed special classes. The explosion of offshore loot exposed that special classes much before Panama. Ideals adopted during late 19th and 20th centuries by many may be good but if one has no work plan then the profiteer always get some good reason to slip timely. It is the lesson we got in last 150 years struggle. it is also important to understand who is making the agenda. Agenda setting itself expose many hidden things if one able to deconstruct it. Intellectuals of late 19th and 20th centuries failed to deconstruct the agenda timely. The result of last 150 years is enough to prove who took benefit among 6 billion population?
Like paper money, now digital power (plastic cum cyber money) is haunting the old system and again it borrowed some selective ideals from the past too. Numerous gods of digital Zeus are already in market and have its own attraction under the banner of environment protection, transparency, multiculturalism etc. As they are transnational by default so their anti national role inspire many of us too. it is important that we should not repeat last 150 years twists any more.
If ICIJ take grant then what it means? is it a reward for success in panama scandal? will the ICIJ not check the Donner and its subsidiaries? If it is not for profit and for people then can they avoid big money? I try to explain some more points in my Punjabi article too..its beginning of a new debate  and it is right time for this.
