About Dr Ishfaq 

Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad is Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and Director of the Center for Advanced Computing Systems at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), which he joined in 2002. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and M.S. in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University, New York, U.S.A., in 1992 and 1987, respectively; and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, in 1985. His early education was from Central Model High School and Government College at Lahore. Before joining UTA, he was an associate professor in the Computer Science Department at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He has authored 270-plus publications, including books, papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings on supercomputing systems, parallel optimization algorithms, digital video compression and analysis, assistive technologies, and sustainable computing. Dr. Ahmad has received numerous international research awards, including the five best research paper awards at leading conferences and top-tier journals. Dr. Ahmad’s research, drawing career-wide funding of about $15 million, is sponsored by government agencies and several companies. According to Google Scholar, his research papers are widely cited in computer science referencing his research work. Google Scholar ranks him among the top ten researchers in several sub-branches of computer science and engineering. According to Stanford University’s rating, he is among the top 2% of scientists in the world. Aside from being the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, Sustainable Computing: Informatics and Systems, he has served as an editor of six other journals, chaired over 20 conferences, and delivered more than 150 talks, including several keynote speeches. Currently, he is Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Discover Internet-of-Things, a journal with an editorial board of researchers worldwide. In the past, he has been a senior visiting scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China, and a visiting lecturer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas. A regular senior visiting scientist at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York, he also holds honorary professorships at several universities around the world. Dr. Ahmad is a certified evaluator of ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) for evaluating computer science and engineering degree programs worldwide. He is honored as a Distinguished Life Fellow of IDES (India’s Institute of Doctors, Engineers, & Scientists). Dr. Ahmad is also a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)—the Fellow grade is the highest of the IEEE and is conferred for extraordinary achievements in electrical engineering and computer science.
