Kharals, British loyalists, Sikh-Muslim conflict and the misleading writings

Kharals, British loyalists, Sikh-Muslim conflict and the misleading  writings
169th Anniversary of Ahmad Khan Kharal

Aamir Riaz (Writer - Punjab Di Vel)

A reply to the claims made about Ahmad Khan Kharal in the article written by Waqar Mustafa on BBC and in the book by Sargana Sahib published from OUP in Urdu ...... in which they amplified the Sikh-Muslim divide, called Ranjit Singh a Sikh ruler, described the British occupation of Punjab as a blessing for Punjabi Muslims, and while narrating the resistance of the Kharals, cleverly tried to divert our attention from the British towards the Sikhs.
Rai Ahmad Kharal's name is bright in history... but you should read the article written on BBC and the BOOK Published by OUP, Pakistan carefully. Either it is a twist or an apologetic effort, we have to check it with little care.
The claim in the article about 27 districts and 7 divisions in the Punjab of that time, 18 years after the occupation (1867), is suspicious. The way Kharal's resistance has been linked to Delhi is not only weak but also suspicious. In the BBC article, there is an excessive effort to play with Sikh-Muslim divide.
Bhawalpur had been a lackey of the British in every war since 1833, (In Punjab di Vel i mentioned Multan and Bhawalpur along with the taxes they deposited in Lhore Darbar since 1805) but in the article, with cleverness, the bringing of guns by Kharals from Bahawalpur is mentioned. In the introduction of Sargana Sahib's book, even before tangled matters, this point was omitted that one of those who helped the British was also the Nawab of Bahawalpur. They mentioned Patiala, Jind, Nabha but remained silent about a big sympathizer of the British, the Nawab of Bahawalpur. This is a specific method which has been used in many books written about 1857. On the one hand writer mentioned Sikhs against Ahmad Khan Kharal, but in the article writer has also written the name of Sarfaraz Kharal who conspired against Ahmad Khan, Sargana Sahib also mentioned Qureshis, Langrials, Gardizis, Arains, Murad Shah who acted against Ahmd Khan Kharal but have not written the name of Nawab Bahawalpur. If Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs were included in supporting the British, then why emphasize spying on Sikhs only? But it is not the only reason for writing the blog. In the article, these clever sentences have been made to be spoken by Kharal that he is loyal to the Mughals. Whereas the Mughal rule had ended 60 years ago and since 1799, Ranjit Singh and the Lhore Darbar had been ruling here. The writer Waqar Mustafa did not tell from where he found this point, but in the article at this pint there was a photo of Turab-ul-Hassan Sargana's book which was published by the London based OUP. As soon as I opened the book, Sargana Sahib has printed this same point on page 126, but its reference are two letters of the British offcers. Just think that the British were against the Lhore Darbar and Ranjit Singh and now Sargana Sahib has used two letters of the British only. The writers, trusting the Mutiny record, have said that the killers of Kharal were Sikhs, which is the very face of a clever trick of the British. Giving reference of A.D. Ejaz's Dhola, on page 119 Sargana Sahib has written that Ahmad Khan Kharal was identified by Dhara Singh and Gulab Singh Bedi martyred him by firing. I have written this because in Sargana Sahib's book, in imitation of the British, the Lhore Darbar has been written with a religious reference and in the introduction itself Ranjit Singh has been called a Sikh ruler. Not only this, but in many places in Sargana's book (p. 3, 11, 19, 21) an attempt has been made to make us believe that Punjabi Muslims were fed up with Ranjit and were happy with the British annexation. These very clever sentences tell us for what purpose the book was written and why they published it.
But my complaint is with those friends of ours who neither read colonial literature carefully nor examine the later writings with reverse engineering. Otherwise, after the arrival of the British, from the Carnatic Wars (1744) to the Ghadar (1914) and INA (1945), there were resistances everywhere; to say that resistance happened only at a few places is a circular argument. I have given proof in Punjab Di Vail from the preamble of the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871, in which it is written that this law will be immediately applicable in Punjab and Oudh... meaning these were the two places where resistance was still ongoing. Kharals, Abbasis, Kayanis, Mamdots and many others kept on resisting after 1849 and were fighting even in 1871. But Sargana Sahib says Punjabis were happy with the British occupation and many of our friends praise that book without reading it. They increase the Sikh-Muslim divide and our friends do not even pay attention to that. If in some Dhola there is mention of a bad deed of some Sikh, then we should avoid taking that matter towards the entire Sikh community. Sargana has also written names of many Muslim Punjabis, BBC has also written names f many Mslims who opposed Ahmad Khan Kharal. Should we write that all Muslim Punjabis were against Ahmad Khan Kharal?
Such clever insinuations are made only by those who have agendas. I have mentioned in my book many characters who fought against the British, including those who fought from Sabhraon to Chillianwala. Among them, after the Battle of Chillianwala, the British government had also released Chattar Singh (Governor of Hazara) and Sher Singh Atariwala, their swords were returned to them, but I have given in the book with reference the order of not forgiving their third companion. He was a Barakzi Pathan whom we know by the name of Talaee Khan i-e Sultan Mohammad Khan. He was the brother of Dost Mohammad Khan, the King of Kabul, and the ancestor of Zahir Shah (King of Afghanistan). He remain loyal to Ranjit Singh and Lhore Darbar till 1849.
As after the occupation of Punjab, the British made a new game on Sikh-Muslim and Pathan-Punjabi contradictions so no one ready to remember Talaee Khan today. Afghan, Pakhtun, Punjabi - no leader talk about him. From this alone you should understand such clever writings and books.
