Iqbal Alavi's response on Jamal Naqvi's book

Date: Sun, 11 May 2014 22:24:45 +0500

Truth is always a dop of oil in water. No matter how much water you add, it always floats on the top.
I read the book and to my humble mind I found nothing increminating. i ignored the various references
about Azad Paksitan Party, Maj Ishaq, and others. The  thrust or focus of the book is his disallusion
with the Soviet System which collapsed for reasons inter aliea closing the doors of inner party emocracy. Unless the leaders have heart to accept the criticism and make amends no movement will ever prosper. The same goes on a small scale on Irtiqa Group. Same is the case of PWA, headed by Rahat Saeed. The lesson one learns from the book is the need of more democracy at all levels and  with the change of mode of production, means of production, and system of distribution, the dynamics of the society under goes a charnge and therefore, there is always a need to evaluate your value system be political or social and brighten or enlighten  the thinking to match the change. Yes we must have the system of Right or Wrong even in the political divide of forces of left or the forces of right. The forces continue to exist and it is for the intellecutuls to muster the courage to honestly say the apple is not an orange.
The book has revealed the invaluable scarifices the writer has offer to his cause and the cause of his party. This is commendable and must be recognised. He has not betrayed the party or its workers, or its moral values. I salute him for his courage of conviction. It is the right of every citizen to accept the manifesto of a party and join it. Like wise the same citizen has the right to terminate his realtionship and say good bye. Only in a tribale society or the mindset of tribal values that they deny a member the right to leave. No sooner you opt to leave or become inactive you become a target. You  become "murted" and qabil gardan zadani. Let us benefit from the epxerience of our lives. and exercise the same values of life which you wish others  to  exercise.
This is my candid and humble opinion. I have never worked in any party apparatus under the leadeership of JN. I was with him in Karachi prison for one year and after that we seldom met each other. I always valued his humane values, his political wisdon, his knowledge of Marxism and English language and literature.

Iqbal alavi response

Dear Aamir Saheb.
I have seen you upload of an extract of my email to Mr Nasir Arain. It was in house communication between mutual friends. I am extremely sorry that my email was fwd to you without my knowledge. It is breach of trust. I am sorry that the name of Rahat Saeed who is my friend over 25 years is maligned publicly. This was in house discussion which goes on between like minded friends. I feel embraced.
Aamir bhai I do not blame you. It is my own fault. Khud karda ra elajey. Naist.
It is in bad taste to mention name in public dialogue? Sory very sory for breach of a trust by my childish benefactor Nasir. Please treat this dialogues as closed. Regards and respects for you.

My answer to him

Dear Iqbal ji, as u mentioned yourself, i got this email from Nasir and it is in continuation of the debate generated after Jamal Naqvi's book. i did not know either it is just a private email. Nasir told me but it was too late. actually i posted it in my blog Punjab Punch with all 4 more things. Review of I A Rehman, Rebutal from Dr Syed Talha Iqbal of Karachi, Review in the news and extracts and photographs of the book. So i thought it is in continuation of debate on the book. in fact it ur email is in continuation. I knew Rahat Saeed too and in ur email, what u mention is a general situation prevalent in left circles. your main point is important and that is "The  thrust or focus of the book is his disillusion with the Soviet System which collapsed for reasons inter aliea closing the doors of inner party democracy. Unless the leaders have heart to accept the criticism and make amends no movement will ever prosper" This phenomenon is present not only in Sindh including Karachi but also in other areas of Pakistan too. Those who were/are in left formations knew it very well. As u knew there are many important people in left who practically left progressive politics and enjoyed lucrative positions yet they did not write a single word till to date. Yet Jamal is bold enough who shares his point of view. Jamal is not alone in this journey. Just remember M.N.Roy who disagreed with russian communists in 1928 congress. He also wrote an article in 1940 in favour of Trotsky. In mid 1940s he turned a humanist and till his death he remains a humanist.  he differs with CPI too and it is history. Is there any communist in India Pakistan and Bangladesh who claim seniority with respect to ROY. If our leaders are ready to accept criticism than one can raise a debate on left politics. anyway, i donot know either SPN will publish it or not, but if u wish, i will delete ur email from Blog too. Thanks
