Part-2 Iranian+ Saudi Conflict: Armed Industry, Election Year in US & Pakistan

Part-2

Iranian+ Saudi Conflict

Armed Industry, Election Year in US & Pakistan

Everyone knows the relationship between War & Trade yet after the formation of Nation State this lethal combination of War & Trade often used in International as well as National politics as game changer. In order to give moral legitimacy to wars they used attractive slogans based on Nationalism, Religion, Sub-religion, Sub-nationalism, Old regional conflicts smartly and recent Saudi+Iranian conflict is also a reflection of such game plan. Keeping in view that this is election year in the US and Ronald Trump's anti-muslim statements one can understand who is who behind the Conflict. In conflict zones, local power brokers too used such opportunities against their local partners. What crown prince did in Saudi Arabia is a trick too while burning of  KSA embassy in Iran too a reflection of local politics. Iranian President rightly criticized protesters timely yet in International Media promoters of armed industry downplayed his statement smartly and published only conflict base parts. Earlier, when KSA announced 34 countries alliance, same trick was followed in International media by associated it with the misleading term "The sunni alliance". Infact 23 Sunni countries are out of it and indonesia already left and in this situation calling it Sunni alliance looks strange yet it has appeal among various extremist muslim groups due to their old conflicts.  Read the piece and enjoy

Irani+Saudi Conflict: Timing, Power Brokers & infighting Part-1

Irani+Saudi Conflict

Timing, Power Brokers & infighting Part-1

Here I am sharing a piece of Hassan Mujtaba published in Daily Jang with title Sectarianism & Saudi+Irani Conflict. Author unfolded background well yet missed the core issue. We better pinpoint the process & hidden politics which produce Hitler, Khumini, Zia, Mulla Omar,  Modi etc. I wrote two pieces and will share with you soon.
Like a student of history Mujtaba narrated the story with due care, explained how Altaf Hussain, Khumini and Saudi intervention became part of problem in post Bhutto scenario. Crispy sentences will remind you how the whole region Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan drifted towards sectarian wars. Whenever we analyse Hitler we have to unfold post WW1 scenario. We have to check how Bismark's Germany compelled to leave road of progress and produced Hitler. It was largely due to post WW1 policies coined by Great Britain and France. The humiliation Germans & German descent people had to pass across Europe including change of names under Anti German Sentiments is a history. So is the case with sectarian wars and we have to check larger parts of it. Will share it in next part.
Here are my comments on Hassan Mujtaba quality colum, unusual writing for infected Urdu press.
  1. PNA was not a rightist movement because it had Pukhtoon Nationalist Pro-Moscow Wali Khan as a major player among Gang of 9. Some nationalists and progressive groups supported PNA silently yet some were on roads against elected PM.
  2. Rise of Saudi Arab started from the 2nd Islamic summit hosted by Pakistan in 1974. Saudi Arab was smartly replaced from Iran who was discredited since late 1960s
  3. Separate book of Islamiat for Shias was introduced not in Zia period but during Bhutto period in 1975. Shia clergy in Pakistan supported that segregation which was a bad taste.
  4.  Humiliation of Iranians was smartly drifted in the support of fundamentalist Khumini with the help of custodians of Socialism (USSR) and Liberalism (France). It was not any people's revolution but a move to isolate Iran further. it was a calculated game plan.
  5. likewise in Pakistan Zia too played Shia Sunni rift and the first episode of that drama was the managed protest against Zikat. The success of that protest supported Zia in many ways internally, regionally and internationally. It drifted pro-PPP Shia workers towards Shia fundamentalism. It viden the space for anti-Shia elements (Devbandi, Wahabi) to support Zia & Saudi interpretation of Islam.
Will share my pieces soon

Textbooks Breading Extremism & Hatred

Textbooks Breading Extremism & Hatred

South Asians are product of school textbooks either they read in Public schools or Private schools. Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi scholars many time pinpointed biases , errors and twisted facts in the textbooks. keeping in view latest waves of extremism one has to  raise this issue again and again so that respective governments should take it seriously. Unfortunately, the presence of insensitivity and selective criticism regarding textbooks by civil society mislead many efforts to change it. In post NAP senario there is an immediate need to change textbooks but if we relays on old narratives we cannot move forward.
Opposing Zia is easy yet changes his narrative is a hard nut to crack. NewsLens did a story and tried to explore unholy alliance between textbooks and extremism and Chairman Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board looks ready to change textbooks but ground reality is far behind this claim. whenever you meet subject Specialists, textbook writers, university professors, Central/provincial Curriculum Wing heads and owners/headmasters of public and private schools, you can easily smell the biased mindset they have.Anyway, read the Newslens story yourself

Did Punjab always welcome Invaders? Listen Radio prog Lok Lhar

Did Punjab always welcome Invaders?

Listen Radio prog Lok Lhar

Only@Mast FM 103
Who coined the Invader theory and Why? What were the motives? They not only coined Invader theory but also divided our historical past in religious connotation by calling it Hindu Period, Muslim Period and Sikh Period. Interestingly they did not call British period as Christian Period. They started Invader theory from Aryan myth  and then added Alexander campaign in it smartly. They also use misleading terms as Muslim or islami Invaders and Foreign Invaders. But again did not include themselves in the list of Foreign Invaders. Playing with nationalisms, religions, sub-nationalisms and sub-religions was their policy and they even published false books to strengthen their misleading theories. Fundamentalism, extremism is largely a product of those misleading colonial policies. it was a twist coined largely during colonial times. it is essential to revisit our history.

How some over smart intellectuals used that theory against the Punjab and Punjabis

Parsees of the Punjab/Rawalpundi

Parsees of the Punjab/RawalPindi

Parsee/Parsi community is among protectors of the oldest religions who fought with the world of magic since ancient times. The Punjab, Kashmir, Baluchistan, KyberPK and kabul, Gandhar has a long relationship with Parsees and Persian since ages. The center of Parsees was Bulkh and the kingdom of Bulkh was consists of vast areas from Kashmir, Punjab till Bukhara, Tashkend, Iran till syria. Afrasyab, the king was also from Bulkh. It was a shortest trade route and Junction and whosoever got control of the Bulkh, he got control on the trade and spread his thoughts too. Buddhists, Parsees and Muslims examples are enough to understand the phenomenon. Our region has a strong linkage with parsees and Achaemenid Empire as well as Sasanian Empire are proof of that linkage. Even in the historic tale of Tilsim e Hoshruba three forces are in conflict and agreement i-e Muslims, Gabbars (parsees) and magicians. It was a pre-islamic tale yet retold as par tradition after 6th century. we have yet to explore our common Parsi past partly due to some prejudices and partly due to our disconnect with ancient forms of Parsi language and Kharoshti script. here am introducing a good piece written by Umad ali and Published by dawn Blog.
It is a good column about Rawalpindi and Prasee presence in the Punjab  yet it has some errors too. Pindi was created during Mharaja Ranjeet Singh's time and lot of travelers including Brian Hugeal visited it and recorded about the city in their books. It was a mandi (market) much before its creation. Even Chinese travelers pinpointed history of trade in thiat area well. Newly formed Pindi was a strategic city not only regarding military campaigns but also regarding huge trade from the Punjab till Bukhara and Bulkh.Mharaja recognized its importance yet it was  colonial master who converted that area into garrison city and established its regional military headquarter there after annexation in 1849. Rawalpindi District was a muslim majority area and even in 1941 census Rawalpindi district was thickly populated by Muslims. Non-Muslims had more presence in the city centres yet in districts they were in minorities.
Parsees were traders and had presence at that trade route much before Muslim entry in those lands. Persian was common language or lingua franca in the region from Central Asia till West Asia and Kashmir, Punjab region.Fall of Blukh Empire effected parsees and due to rise of Mongols they shifted to numerous places especially in the Sindh, Kashmir & the Punjab. Their presence at Lhori Bandar (A port near Thatta) was recorded by Tarikh e Tahiri of 16th century. Conversion of Khurasan region and Central Asia to Islam after 11th century effected Parsee community yet Mongols of 13th century destroyed their power. Their numerical power reduced much before British entry in that region.

Nationalism: The New Religion & Riddles

Nationalism: The New Religion & Riddles

Misleading Conflicts

Tricks and gimmicks of Nation States

Recent Fake War of words between Iran & Saudi Arab is another trick like Hindu-Muslim war between Pakistan and India. Such misleading conflicts already ruined us from within
Pride & prejudice always get space in changing circumstances and remain part of the problem since centuries. Iqbal in early 20th century called Nationalism The new god. On the one hand globalization, porous border campaigns, Nuclear Free world & disarmament like movements are knocking at our door yet regressive forces are hiding either behind secular slogans like nationalism or fundamentalism. European Union is a symbol of regional development with equal opportunities for all countries yet in other regions collective efforts could not mature due to monolithic approaches by one or two big regional players. Once I met with a Turkish professor who was an admirer of Iqbal. He read Iqbal in Turkish language at school and told me that Iqbal was translated in Turkey much before 1947. When I did question regarding Turkey he immediately said that like Turkey, Pakistan has bad neighbors. the comment was regarding regional tensions. The world is changing in 21st century yet ruling classes in different countries are divided on the issue to support or oppose globalization. Last three hundred years history is a history of intense wars, brutal use of statecraft, play with religions/sects/ideologies and social engineering along with hot, cold and proxy wars among Nation States. Ironically, nationalism of these Nation States has weak connections with cultural, religious and ethnic diversities. There were divided nationalities, ethnicity which made them more miserable. Nationalism of Nation States relays on twisted historical continuities coined under the influences of new geographies attained largely after two WWs. No doubt, like religion, nationalism has a lot of appeal in it, Both religion & Nationalism inspired many people yet nationalisms of newly formed Nation States and Use of religion in Statecraft by the rulers as well as groups has nothing to do with nationality question of religions in general. Nation State phenomenon is restricted to geographical boundaries and in any case a nation state cannot compromise on reduction of territory. On the other hand for the supporters & promoters of nationality question, Ideologies and religions territorial fixations  has less importance largely. But these days promoters and supporters of Nation States are again ready to use religions, nationalities and Ideologies against globalization phenomenon. The question remain ahead of every one regarding performance of Nation States regarding religions, ideologies and nationalities. Tensions among nation States is a recent twist to boast prides and prejudices. Tensions between India, Pakistan, Saudi Arab, Iran will help further destruction in the regions. Fascism and Extremism were prime products of Nation state phenomenon and world has to realize how to control Nation States from promoting Fascism and Extremisn.
