April 1948: Jinnah wanted to replace Liaqat with Ghulam Muhammad as PM
During a Muslim league session in feb 1948, Jinnah proposed name of Liaqat as next President of Muslim League yet the house rejected his name and ch khaliquzman was elected as president M.L Jinnah accepted it. now he wanted to replace him as he had many reservations against him too as recorded by many companions and contemporaries in their memoires. Jinnah remained alive for next 6 months yet Liaqat had managed his leader with usual power politics and intrigues and started a defamation campaign against Ghulam Muhammad which is now part and parcel of our history as the sole truth. Editor Dawn Altaf Hussein, Ch Muhammad Ali, Moulvi Tameezudin and Sir Zufrullah were among trusted cronies of Liaqat at that time.Ghulam Muhammad was last resort against Objective Resolution (passed after the death of Jinnah in March 1949) which added fuel into fire against GM. Hussein Imam, Ayub Khoro and Omar Hayyat Malik, all were against Ghulam Muhammad due to sepate reasons yet in their interviews they had to acknowldge qualities of GM but also threw light on the news of replacement. These interviews were published by Government of Pakistan , Institute of history and culture Islamabad founded by late K K Aziz during Z.A.Bhutto times. read the story
