Politics of Leaks: Hidden Powers, Palace intrigues & Info-Leaks

Politics of Leaks

Hidden Powers, Palace intrigues & Info-Leaks

Is print media subservient to digital media? Recent Email leaks of Hillary Clinton and its misuse in election campaign 2016 is enough to understand who is who behind the game. Keeping in view post 2007 world of information technology the larger trend is to ''leave editor behind'' and relay on ''Leaks''. Is it a new method of control? You can trust on Leaks only in editor less media and we are living in the age of social media. It is part of problem in many ways and we have to think about it. Powerful agencies are using info-leaks smartly against selective opponents. Politicians are using it against their competitors. 20th century is known for the misuse of radio, TV by the various nation states and now in 21st century digital is the new mantara. Print is following info-leaks. It is an international trend and we are following it in Pakistan too, as usual, without understanding its impacts. Once it will establish as authentic then it may unfold many new trends. If in future we witness any info-leak regarding deep state we will not able to confront.
Recent story of Cyril was also a leak but when it hit the target, the questions of authenticity and leak raised from various corners. In the same newspaper, a news item regarding army info-leaks was published in April this year. The news was regarding removal of army officers due to corruption. No one raised the question of secrecy, no one asked about breach of national security at that time and interestingly no one had denied it too.
'' In an unprecedented move, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif dismissed six army officers, including two generals, from service over alleged corruption, an authoritative source confirmed on Thursday.''
''A lieutenant general, major general and three brigadiers are said to be among those dismissed from service, said an intelligence official speaking to Dawn News on condition of anonymity.''

Although the story has a story inside related to corruption and misuse of powerful office presumably exposed due to an alleged accident that killed two officers but it was used as an example to follow by civilians. No one asked who leaked it. If that leak was justified then how could we object Cyril?  But in power politics timing always plays an important role so the incident exposed inside power tussle.
How info-leaks are getting important place in Pakistan is an interesting study and in many ways it is an unguided missile and it can hit anywhere.
