Punjabi Protest: A column in Hum-Sub and Selective Analysis
Although the heading itself is enough to understand the mindset yet it is good to read it and then read the comments. On the one hand private media did not cover the event (their cameras were their and they recorded it too) and on the other hand some intellectuals are twisting it. All are ready to serve elite school system. We all knew well about the false pride of English and that false pride runs in supporters of Urdu/Hindi too. Read and think about it.
کبھی ہمارےبچوں کے نام بھی ہمارے تھے مگرگذشتہ کئی عشروں سے مقامی ناموں کی جگہ تیزی عرب نام لے رہے ہیں۔ثقافتی تخریب میں مصروف نرگسی بحران میں مبتلا لوگوں نے ان ناموں کی مانگ اس قدر بڑھا دی گئی ہے کہ فٹ پاتھ پر پرانی کتب بیچنے والے سے لے کر ڈائیوو کے جگمگاتے ٹرمینلز پر کوئی ڈھنگ کی کتاب ملے نہ ملے بچوں کے عربی ناموں کو ’اسلامی ‘ ناموں کی پڑیا میں فروخت کرنے والی کتب ضرور مل جاتی ہیں۔ یہ اسی بحران کا نتیجہ ہے کہ اب سرائیکی وسیب میں بھی ہماری ملاقات سانول، سارنگ، پنہل اور ڈھولن نامی بچے سے نہیں پرائے جنگی کرداروں سے ہوتی ہے۔یہ نرگسی بحران ہے کا ہی ثبوت ہے کہ ہمارے لوگ اپنے بچوں کو اصلی مقامی کی بجائے نقلی عرب بنانا چاہتے ہیں۔ وہ اپنے چہرے اور اپنی شناخت سے بھاگ رہے ہیں۔
Before targeting Arabic cultural influence if the writer wrote some lines regarding colonial twists then he may able to show complete picture. But under selective approach and more often to defend secularism & modernity we usually missed colonial twists, false prides etc. During so-called secular colonial set up Urdu was imposed in our lands in 1865 and if we read textbooks of colonial times we can understand their policy of developing this region as garrison state. Punjabi sufi poets remained out of lessons and the same policy was continued after creation of Pakistan yet they changed it with green wrapping. Protest against Beacon House is a symbol against misleading pride. More important thing is boycott of so-called private media that exposed its false claims. Humsub should consider it too.
