Syed Sajjad Zaheer, Pakistan movement & Communist Party

Syed Sajjad Zaheer, Pakistan movement & Communist Party
Ahmad Saleem is a valued collector. There is an imence need to preserve his collection yet an institutionalized mechanicism is the only solution in this regard. His new book published by Sang e Meal is a collection of articles, editorials published in Qoomi jang & Naya Zamana between vibrant years of 1943-46. It was a time when CPI was supporting war efforts against Germans & Japanies. It was post Atlantic senario (after 14-August 1941) where Soviet Union, USA, UK & China were in a joint struggle. Germans were defeated but not eliminated yet Japnies were forwarding towards Burma. Atlantic charter was further endorsed in December 1941Washighton conference where Soviet Union, France, China , UK, USA were on same pitch against Germany & Japan. After that in our lands, CPI had to join war efforts and British Government lefted the ban on CPI. CPI was banned 17 years back in 1925. Now Banny mian started two magazines Qoomi Jang & Naya Zamana and its editorial policy was in line with new policy. Ironically, All India congress miscalculated the shift. At the one hand Mahatma tried unsucessfully to aprove a resolution in favour of Japanis while Congress working comitee announced Quit India campaign. CPI had changed its previous policy so instead of Quiet India movement they started support of All India Muslim League. Now at ideological front they have Adhekari thesis while at media front they had Qoomi Jang & Naya Zamana. if one read editorials/articles published during three & half years (1943-46) you will find praise for Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, interpretations of Islam with respect to class question, refrences of Iqbal and Jinnah and suport for muslim nationalism of muslim majority provinces on the basis of nationality question. yet it is another interesting fact that after independence, CPP communists from karachi forgot banny mian bahsans at all. Banny mian was still there leader yet they did not want to remeber his editorials but always refer Roshnai. In Punjab, neither Khaja Masood , safdar mir, major Ishaq, C r aslam followed karachi CPP nor they oppose Iqbal. read the piece and u think, as u r the real judge.
